Why is Sustainability important to us?

At Maple Leaf Scuba, we understand the interconnected role the ocean plays in our terrestrial world. Marine tourism is the keystone of Cozumel's livelihood, and we're committed to safeguarding this precious resource for future generations. As divers, we're privileged to witness firsthand the beauty and fragility of underwater ecosystems, and with that privilege comes responsibility.

PADI Eco Center

We're proud to be an industry leader, we were the only PADI Eco Center in Cozumel and the 4th in Mexico upon receiving our accreditation in 2024, highlighting our dedication to setting high standards for sustainable diving practices. As a recognized PADI Eco Center, a distinction granted to dive operators that demonstrate a strong commitment to conservation and dive industry sustainability, this certification acknowledges our active efforts to reduce environmental impact and educate our community about marine conservation.

GREEN FINS

Our Green Fins membership has been instrumental in achieving this Eco status. Established by the UN Environment Programme and The Reef-World Foundation, Green Fins provides practical solutions and strict guidelines to reduce environmental impact.

Green Fins also offers very informative courses for our divers and guides. To learn more check out the Green Fins website.

Adopt The Blue: Dive Against Debris Community Event

Taking action is at the heart of our conservation philosophy! Maple Leaf Scuba has adopted two dive sites in Cozumel where we run regular cleanups through Dive Against Debris initiatives. We coordinate a monthly community event engaging local businesses, residents, and tourists to remove trash from the ocean and shoreline.
If you're ever in Cozumel on the last Tuesday of the month, come join our community event! Protect our oceans while having fun and making new friends with fellow ocean enthusiasts.

PADI AWARE Foundation

The PADI AWARE Foundation is a global force for ocean protection, focusing on marine debris prevention, creation of marine protected areas, and protection of vulnerable marine species. We make regular monthly contributions to the PADI AWARE Foundation through fundraising from our cleanup events.  We promote PADI AWARE courses as part of our eco range where a percentage of course fees are donated to the PADI AWARE Foundation.
