PADI ECO CENTER

 

We're proud to be an industry leader, we were the only PADI ECO Center in Cozumel and the 4th in Mexico upon receiving our accreditation in 2024, highlighting our dedication to setting high standards for sustainable diving practices. As a recognized PADI ECO Center, a distinction granted to dive operators that demonstrate a strong commitment to conservation and dive industry sustainability, this certification acknowledges our active efforts to reduce environmental impact and educate our community about marine conservation.

 

Why is Sustainability important to us?

At Maple Leaf Scuba, we understand the interconnected role the ocean plays in our terrestrial world. Marine tourism is the keystone of Cozumel's livelihood, and we're committed to safeguarding this precious resource for future generations. As divers, we're privileged to witness firsthand the beauty and fragility of underwater ecosystems, and with that privilege comes responsibility.

How did we obtain this certification? 

We created ECO courses like our Advanced Open Water Eco course where you can choose among three PADI AWARE adventure dives which include Peak Performance Bouyancy, Underwater Naturalist, Dive Against Debris, AWARE Shark Conservation, and Fish ID.
We worked with our staff and Captain to ensure we used only biodegrabable cleaning supplies, we hosted monthly Dive Against Debris events, we educated our customers on buoyancy and being eco friendly on each dive, we offered free biodegradable suncreen and/or encouraged the use of a rashguard, we also encouraged all our customers and staff to use reusable bottles among many other things.
It's an ongoing processs where we hope to continue to make a difference.

Adopt The Blue: Dive Against Debris Community Event

Taking action is at the heart of our conservation philosophy! Maple Leaf Scuba has adopted two dive sites in Cozumel where we run regular cleanups through Dive Against Debris initiatives. We coordinate a monthly community event engaging local businesses, residents, and tourists to remove trash from the ocean and shoreline.

GREEN FINS

Our Green Fins membership has been instrumental in achieving this Eco status. Established by the UN Environment Programme and The Reef-World Foundation, Green Fins provides practical solutions and strict guidelines to reduce environmental impact.
